What to do when you've got nothing to do...
In my family we never say "I'm bored" because it is inevitable that a parent will hear and then give us a job. Its even a risky business being in the same room as someone who says "I'm bored," the likelihood of you also being given a job is very high. But what about when you actually are bored, what do you do?
I have heaps of experience in that field because for this whole year I've been in that situation for the larger part of each day. Lists are easy to write so here is a list.
1. Read one of those fanatastic classic books youve always wanted to read but never had the time or inclination. [gotta put a good word for Shakespeare in here.]
2. Gather all available inspiration and write a blog... ahem, yeah, thats what I'm doing now.
3. Hang with the little siblings or the equivalent, this is great even if you don't really enjoy it because its always useful to have a little ally who will either vouch for you in difficult situations or get you stuff when you don't want to get off your bum.
4. I like to play the piano when I get bored, it always fills me with inspiration or just fills up the time while doing something pretty practical [when I play church music, it also makes you feel really joyful/worshipful.]
5. Cook something while listening to great music.
6. Look on wikihow, this will inspire you to create something that could be awesome. I made a bag out of duct tape and a box out of a book... ahh, good times.
7. Chat to mates on the net, they probably have something to do but you manage to delay them and make them chat to you all afternoon... mwahaha!
8. clean stuff. Your bedroom would be a good start. It always feels good to tidy your room if it is on your own initiative. [ie if you tell mum you are bored she will tell you to tidy your room anyway, but naturally you always feel obliged to be grumpy about it.]
9. edit and create things on the computer, this can be just for fun or even useful. Ive been making ads for this holiday club and a brochure for our church camp. Its really enjoyable finding your style of clip art and editing them to fit in with your purpose. [ie on the front of the church camp brochure one of the people used to be playing poker and drinking a martini but is now teaching her kid about the bible... shhh, don't tell anyone!]
10. Watch a movie and record the great quotes in your never ending memory bank. This way when someone is looking for someone you can say to them: "looking for someone you are? found someone you have! mehehe!" -Yoda.
Lastly just try not to get seriously bored aye! This list only works if you have the energy to try to get out of your boredom. Remember, bored is an attitude that causes even the most appealing things to be boring. If all else fails do the hard thing and tell your mum. That way you are sure to have to do something and its pretty sure to be unpleasant. -should teach you not to get bored again aye!
